Teenseed convenes the National Girls Advisory Council which is a leadership movement building network for adolescent girls in the informal settlements who have a passion to advocate for the rights of girls and increase their leadership capacity as activists and human rights defenders. Teenseed ensures that these girls have opportunities for learning and growth by linking them to mentors who are currently serving as feminist activists leading their organizations. Additionally, they have opportunities to learn and exchange ideas on different human rights issues within the communities, identify avenues to access leadership and decision making spaces as well as platforms for advocacy. Our hope is that this network will have girls advocating at a national level and even in regional and global spaces. We believe that our role is to foster support and capacity for them to own their voices and take charge of the change they desire to see.
