Women’s Economic Empowerment and Social Protection

Women's economic independence and stability is central to their overall well-being and reduces their vulnerability to sexual and gender-based violence. Teenseed runs a women's economic empowerment program focused on young mothers and survivors between 18-30 years, aimed at economic and financial independence and autonomy.

1. Mentorship: a holistic approach beginning with healing, confidence building and self-esteem, followed by financial literacy training and entrepreneurial capacity building, with links to government affirmative action programs and seed capital.

2. Skills training: tailoring, baking, bead making, mat-making and soap making, including a leased tailoring workshop with a work-for-pay scheme, and market access through feminist convenings.

3. Village-level Chama: Village Savings and Loans Groups that ensure a support system beyond Teenseed — saving, taking loans and investing in each other's businesses.

4. Access to Psycho-social support: counseling for beneficiaries, with day-care services planned for the future.
