Why Education Matters in Our Work
When we visit schools whose girls are supported by Teenseed, we are reminded that education is one of the strongest protective environments for young girls. It shields them from early marriage, exploitation, long-term exclusion and societal stagnation. Yet menstruation - something predictable and natural - still interrupts this protection for many girls every month.
What we See in Classrooms
Girls tell us that missing school during their periods feels inevitable when they lack pads or privacy. Their teachers confirm noticeable absenteeism that often repeats month after month. Through #Pads4Progress, Teenseed provides dignity kits, SRHR knowledge, and menstrual health information that help girls stay in school consistently and participate fully.
Environmental and Structural Barriers
In communities affected by flooding or difficult terrain, the challenges are even greater. We have walked through villages where displacement disrupts daily life and where girls struggle to find clean water, privacy, or safe access to school. In fact, in some flood-prone areas, girls may be forced to hitch a ride on a passing fishing canoe, putting them to risks. In these settings, menstrual health becomes a structural challenge, not a personal one. Teenseed’s role is to help restore stability by ensuring that girls can still manage their periods safely and with confidence.
Why Pads4Progress Makes a Difference
A dignity kit gives a girl the comfort to sit through class without fear. A session with a mentor helps her understand her body without shame. A supportive teacher helps her re-enter school after missing days due to child-birth. These interventions, layered together, reflect Teenseed’s commitment to girls’ long-term wellbeing.
Join us in reaching more girls
Supporting menstrual health is not separate from supporting education. It is part of protecting girls’ rights and their pathways to opportunity. At Teenseed, we continue investing in systems that allow every girl to learn without interruption, regardless of her environment.
